The building was reused before a single supply was.
Long before it was Art and Soul, 104 Arlington Avenue was Radford's fire station — a building designed for one purpose entirely, its working life apparently over. Instead of being torn down, it was reimagined: turquoise brick, ironwork trellis, a mural of dragonflies climbing the wall.
That's not just backstory. It's the whole philosophy in physical form. Just as this building found a second purpose, every donated paintbrush, spool of ribbon, and stack of scrapbook paper that comes through the door gets the same chance — a second life in someone else's hands instead of a trip to the landfill.
Teachers stretch classroom budgets here. Kids find their first paint set here. Longtime artists rediscover a material they'd forgotten they loved. It all happens inside a building that's already proof the idea works.
